Most classes run from 9:30 until about 5:00. Approximately one month before a workshop for which you have registered you will be contacted and given a tool list and any other information you need.

From Interstate 91 North, take Exit 17B.
From 91 South, take Exit 17, onto 141 West.

Come over the shoulder of Mt. Tom and down into Easthampton. Remain on Route 141 until the 7-11, take the first right (Liberty Street) just past the store.

If you are coming from Northampton (Route 10) you’ll get to this point by turning left onto Union Street (Route 141), then left just before the 7-11.

Once on Liberty Street stay to the right at the fork and turn right at the bottom of the hill (look for a Riverside Industries or One Cottage Street sign). Park in the large lot at the rear of One Cottage Street.

To locate the Garage Annex School for Book Arts and the Wide Awake Garage scan the roof-line of the building. Look for a reddish-brown elevator shaft to the right of the smokestack. Go through the loading dock door at the base of that elevator shaft. You’ll find the passenger elevator down the hallway to the left.

Take the elevator or stairs to the top (fifth) floor. The workshop is in room 5-03, the second door on the right, down the hall from the passenger elevator.

Area Lodgings

For the month of July, 2010, we have a special housing option to offer you. Williston Northampton School, a fine prep school just two blocks from the studio, has offered us use of a new residential building that was constructed as an addition to a Victorian home. This is a good value, and includes housing, breakfast, and dinner. Please look for details on our dorm lodging web page

The following list gives you some options to check out for lodging. We donʼt have personal experience with many of these places, so please give us feedback about them. And if you discover any new good options, please let us know so we can add them to the list.

Stay close to Easthampton, our workshop location. The farther north you go, the more scenic, the farther south, the more urban. Public transportation to and from the workshop is available but severely limited. When making reservations ask how long it will take to get to the center of Easthampton, then add at least ten minutes for finding your way up to the studio.

Northampton, a quick five mile drive to the north, is a fun, active small city—lots of great food and things to do at night.

Lodging tax here is 11.7% which includes city tax and occupancy tax.
