Babette Gehnrich received her training as a bookbinder and conservator in Berlin, Germany, and Ascona, Switzerland.

On coming to the US with her husband Daniel, she served an initial internship at the Folger Shakespeare Library in Washington, DC, and worked for both David Bourbeau and Gray Parrot in Easthampton, MA.

In 1986 she took a position as Assistant Conservator at Yale University's book conservation lab; in 1993 she was chosen to take part in the advanced paper conservation course in Vienna, Austria, organized by ICCROM.

Babette has been the head of book and paper conservation at the American Antiquarian Society in Worcester, MA. since 1989.
