
Dea is a professional hand bookbinder, and sole proprietor of Light of Day Bindery (since 1988). Before that she worked for many years as a designer of custom leather goods.
She works on private collections; repairs and restores old books; designs and creates new books, editions, and miniatures.
She teaches privately as well as at art institutes such as The Society for Contemporary Craft, Pittsburgh, PA; BookWorks, Asheville, NC; Snow Farm, Williamsburg, MA; NH Guild of Craftsmen, Hanover, NH. Since 2004 she has been the Resident Book Artist at the John C. Campbell Folk School in NC, responsible for the five disciplines of book arts, printmaking, paper arts, calligraphy, and marbling.
Dea has an MSPH, and has studied and worked for numerous nationally-known hand binders and conservators.
