Nancy Leavitt
Enrollment limited to twelve.
re you looking for an opportunity to explore the process of developing content? If so, let accomplished book artist Nancy Leavitt lead you from your (dis)comfort zone—whatever the case may be!—to a supportive, instructive, and playful environment crafted to help you understand the concept of content and the way that text can inform and inspire a design.
Like an engineering project, a book is a complex three-dimensional design made up of many parts. Our goal as artists is to intentionally integrate all aspects of a book in order to strengthen the structure, form, and content of the interior design.
Through playful research you will begin an examination of the challenges and methods of creating a handmade book interior. You can expect to explore various processes for collecting, analyzing, and developing content—in ways that meld with your own working style.
You will be provided with materials and instruction to design and illustrate—with your own marks—a short book of poetry. Instruction will include group and individual activities, demonstrations, and discussion.
Students at any level of experience are welcome.
