Daniel E. Kelm
Enrollment limited to twelve.

uring this six-day intensive each participant will produce a full-leather binding using techniques traditional to English and French construction.

Variations in structure and the characteristics of materials will be discussed extensively. Endsheet configuration, text sewing, rounding and backing, hand-sewn endbanding, spine lining, leather paring (both with knife and manual paring machine), covering, and leather joint application will be explored.

No prior book experience necessary, however even experienced students will advance their skills. Inexperienced students will cope well if they have good hand skills. Everyone needs decent stamina for this 50–60 hour rich, learning experience.

About one month before the workshop, registrants will receive a tool list, directions to the studio, and any other pertinent logistical information via email. Workshop hours are usually from 9:30 until about 5:00 but the Leather Intensive does run into (and through) some evenings. Please do not buy an airplane ticket or make any other non-refundable payment before checking with us to be sure the workshop for which you have registered has sufficient enrollment.
